oct 8 Commercial concealment law

Guy Michael Solling of James Berry and Associates Legal Consultants joined us in studio to talk about the major change that might be coming in how LLC's in the UAE are organized.

Currently the law says that a UAE national must own 51% of an LLC and the expat 49%.

Through side agreements this is not the usual case.

In 2004 a law was put on the books to make it a punishable offense to have a side agreement that did not respect the 52/49 split in ownership.

This law comes into effect November 15th.

The ramifications are huge!

BUT there may be more in the wind.

And what might happen is a law may come into effect that legalizes the side deal system, which already exists for professionals who can own 100% of their enterprise BUT have an agent who is a UAE national who gets a fee for services.

We will see!

Oct 2 Simplicity

Do we have it all wrong?

Maybe we need to be thinking in terms of simplicity!

John Maeda: Simplicity patterns

http://lawsofsimplicity.com/category/laws?order=ASC

The MIT Media Lab's John Maeda lives at the intersection of technology and art -- a place that can get very complicated. Here, he talks about paring down to basics, and how he creates clean, elegant art, websites and web tools. In his book Laws of Simplicity, he offers 10 rules and 3 keys for simple living and working -- but in this talk, he boils it down to one simply delightful way to be.

oct 1, Jamal Al Falasi on the Environment.

Jamal Al Falasi was recently elected to the United Nations Environment Project (UNEP) Youth Advisory Council as one of two representatives from West Asia. The environmental awareness officer at the Knowledge and Human Development Authority is the first UAE national to be elected to the body.

We spoke about all sorts of things, really thought provoking!
