Remember this Marriott story? Now they are sort of asking to block your reception in conference spaces!
But for a good reason?
The question at hand is what measures a network operator can take to detect and contain rogue and imposter Wi-Fi hotspots used in our meeting and conference spaces that pose a security threat to meeting or conference attendees or cause interference to the conference guest wireless network.
Security experts do believe that hackers are using deceptively named Wi-Fi networks to trick hotel guests into logging on and exposing their computers to danger. It's not clear what that problem—which should mostly be addressed by educating people about not connecting to unknown Wi-Fi networks—has to do with people using personal Wi-Fi hotspots.
This is a great ad for compaq compared to a fish!

Palm might be back?
Here’s a surprise just in time for New Year’s: Palm, the erstwhile mobile brand that flopped despite the big potential of its platform, may still have some life left in it yet.
For years, the HP-owned company sent Palm.com visitors to the HPWebOS.com website. Now Palm redirects to MyNewPalm.com, which features a Palm logo and the alternating messages “Coming Soon” and "Smart Move.”

TRA Reveals Data for Third Quarter of 2014 on UAE Market Shares of Mobile Handsets, Smartphones and Social Networking Sites
The iPhone 5s continues to be the most commonly used mobile handset in the UAE, followed by the Nokia 105/1050 with both Samsung and Apple recording an increase in their market shares.
According to the report, during the period between 1 July 2013 and 30 September 2014, 59% of handsets registered on the UAE’s networks were Smartphones, a figure that has been constantly increasing overtime. In terms of Smartphone models, the iPhone 5s was the most commonly used Smartphone in the UAE comprising 3.7% of total handsets registered on UAE networks, a figure that increased by 22% during Q2 2014 and by 6% in Q3 2014. The report illustrates that the iPhone 5 was the second most popular Smartphone with 2.5% of the market share. The third most commonly used Smartphone was the Samsung S III (2.4%), followed by iPhone 4S (1.7%), Samsung S4 LTE (1.7%), Galaxy S Duos (1.5%), iPhone 4 (1.4%), Samsung Note 3 (1.2%),BlackBerry Bold 9900 (1.2%) ; Samsung S5 (0.7%).

The e-strap module attaches on the wrist side of the strap and is composed of DLC (diamond like carbon) coated steel. Most of the device is taken up by the 0.9-inch monochromatic OLED touchscreen. It has a resolution of 128×36, which works out to 147 pixels per inch. It will show calls, texts, email, appointments, and other basic content. Users will also get some fitness tracking features with the built-in pedometer and have the ability to control music playback. This is nothing ground-breaking, but it’s more than you’ll get with other mechanical watches.
Montblanc will ask €250 ($300) for the e-strap attachment separately, but buyers will be able to get one included with the Timewalker series. The cheapest Timewalker Urban watch will run €2,990 ($3,588) with e-strap and the most expensive one will cost €4,690 ($5,628). At that point, dropping another couple hundred isn’t a big deal.

The Smithsonian's Freer Gallery of Art and Arthur M. Sackler Gallery have an amazing gift for the world in 2015: a newly available collection of 40,000 digitized Asian and American artworks. The Smithsonian says its vast collection has mostly never been seen by the public, and the institution is making the collection available for free public use. The art dates from the Neolithic period to present day; the Smithsonian says the collection includes "1,806 American art objects, 1,176 ancient Egyptian objects, 2,076 ancient Near Eastern objects, 10,424 Chinese objects, 2,683 Islamic objects, 1,213 South and Southeast Asian objects, and smaller groupings of Korean, Armenian, Byzantine, Greek and Roman works."
