Interesting topic - boarding schools can make people independent but perhaps too much so. My father and all his brothers - even some in the extended family - most went to boarding school.

He was adamant however that none of us should. Perhaps he felt that we would become detached to some extent because you learn to look after number one.

I feel that a combination of both would help to make children learn more disciplined. Day school when you are young and boarding school when you are in your teens perhaps. It also depends on the school.

Interesting idea. I wonder if there is a possibility that we become too influenced by the education environment. I wonder about the family element of boarding school and the replacement of the real family for an education family.

My father (he was a big influence on who I am today) said a few things that stay with me but when it comes to education - he had one thing to say - and its probably true on the topic you had last night (23 Feb) as well - the schools today make you literate, an education goes beyond what you learn in classrooms, its what you do with what you learn in classrooms and this comes from a combination of what society offers and your family and friends.

Personally do not put a stock to what qualifications people have but what they have done with their lives and the way they think that draws me (or for that matter anyone else) to people whether its at work or on a social level.
