Pebble is the way to go!
The race to build the modern smartwatch started in earnest thanks to two major events in the past two years: Pebble's über-successful run on Kickstarter in early 2012, and a steady drumbeat of reports in 2013 about Apple's alleged plans to build its own iWatch (or whatever the company decides to call it, should it in fact exist).
With low-energy Bluetooth, Pebble made it easy to view important notifications, check the weather, or change the music you're listening to without ever needing to reach for your smartphone. It managed to make digital watches look less nerdy but also far more user-friendly and functional, especially as a simple but helpful extension to the diverse apps on your smartphone.
THE GOOGLE MODULAR PHONE IS COMING
Google plans to change the world of mobile phones with its modular project Ara. This is a phone that can be upgraded by simply sliding parts in and out. A great way to upgrade the camera, say, without splashing out on a completely new handset. Now Google has teased a video of Ara's progress.
Project Ara will hold a developer conference on 15 and 16 April where more details will be revealed. Google says the conference "will consist of a detailed walk-through of existing and planned features of the Ara platform, a briefing and community feedback sessions on the alpha MDK, and an announcement of a series of prize challenges for module developers."
Google plans three different models of the Ara, including a 6-module mini and a 9-module phablet. For now Google's latest video sneaks a peek at what to expect.
IOS 8
Apple's iOS 8 is expected to be announced at Apple's WWDC conference in June after the company confirmed that developers from around the world will learn about the future of iOS at the annual conference in San Francisco.

Amazon is has a new twist in its plan to enter the grocery market with a new hardware product introduced Friday: Amazon Dash, a combination barcode scanner and voice recorder that syncs up to the shopping cart on Amazon Fresh.

There have long been rumors that Amazon is working on a Spotify-like music subscription service, and a new leak suggests that the work on such a service is progressing. Digital Music News posted part of a licensing agreement on its website Friday that it claims to have obtained from a music publisher.
The contract mentions that Amazon plans to launch “one or more digital music subscription service(s),” which would be available “as part of a bundle with one or more other Amazon products or services.” One of these services is in all likelihood going to be Amazon’s Prime two-day shipping service, which already includes video content as an added bonus.

Microsoft's no stranger to in-car entertainment systems; it's been powering a number of auto-makers' interfaces for years. But now, Microsoft is getting serious about its own, Windows Phone-centric car integration system—and it looks an awful lot like Apple's own CarPlay.

A 14-year-old student has published a study detailing how the U.S. federal and state governments could collectively save about $234 million a year by simply switching the type of font that is used on printed documents.
In his study, Suvir Mirchandani, who lives in the Pittsburgh area, said he found that Garamond is the most efficient font for printing, among the fonts recommend for use by the General Services Administration. This is because Garamond uses thinner strokes for its letters, meaning less ink is used on each character.
MICROSOFT AND THE UNIVERSAL AP APPROACH
Microsoft’s new strategy for its flagging operating system empire is to make it easy for those all-important apps to work across a host of different devices including computers, tablets and phones.
The plan, announced at the software company’s Build conference in San Francisco on Wednesday, is to provide developers with the tools that will let them design an app once, then apply it across all of Microsoft’s Windows 8 platforms, even the Xbox game consoles eventually, with minimal extra effort.

A 5-year-old San Diego boy has outwitted the sharpest minds at Microsoft — he's found a backdoor to the Xbox.
Kristoffer Von Hassel managed to log in to his father's Xbox Live account. When the password log-in screen appeared, Kristoffer simply hit the space button a few times and hit enter.
Robert Davies tells KGTV-TV that just after Christmas he noticed his son playing games he supposedly couldn't access.
Davies, who works in computer security, says he reported the issue to Microsoft, which fixed the bug and recently listed Kristoffer on its website as a "security researcher."
A Microsoft statement says "we take security seriously" and thanks customers for highlighting issues.
It's not the Kristoffer's first triumph. At a year old, he bypassed a cellphone toddler lock by holding down the "home" button.
