Q. Dr. Jenna, James always loves a little gas talk and I never thought I would be the one to write the show about gas. I am eating a lot of raw veggies and falling on the foul side of the gas war. It is getting embarrassing. Any suggestions short of less veggies?
Some veggies in particular do cause more gas than others - pulses, beans, cabbage, cauliflower. Plus consider dairy, gluten,

Q. Doc, my 1 year old seems to have an ear infection every 6 weeks any idea what might be going on? Children often have recurrent ear infections. May eventually need surgery

-on ear stuff what about those candles do they do anything? Melts the wax - debatable

Q. Is there any downside to taking headache medication daily? My job is stressful and I always seem to get headaches in the afternoon.
Paracetamol safe, nsaids not as safe. Better to sort cause of headache. And stress. Consider osteopath and neurologist. Sometimes triggered nerve.
-(CNN)Taking even over-the-counter doses of common painkillers known as NSAIDs -- nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs -- has been linked to an increased risk of heart attack in a new study.
The likelihood of experiencing a heart attack was calculated to increase by an average of 20% to 50%, compared with someone not taking the drugs, regardless of the dosage and amount of time the medications are taken.
The findings are observational and based on an association, however, with the drugs not proved to be a a direct cause of heart attack.
This group of drugs includes ibuprofen, diclofenac, celecoxib and naproxen, which are available over the counter or by prescription for higher doses, to relieve pain or fever resulting from a range of causes, including flu, headaches, back pain and menstrual cramps. Their range of uses also means they are often taken as needed, for short periods of time.

-work job loss (and being in a job that affects our confidence)Bad jobs can hurt our souls. Humans thrive on contributing to things larger than ourselves, being productive, positive interactions with others and recognition for our efforts. A job is much more than a means to pay the bills. When a rotten manager tells you your work isn’t good enough – or you’re not good enough, it wounds your spirit. When coworkers blame and shame you, it rips little holes in your psyche. Even if you know that you add value to your company and that you do good work, even if you think your managers and their minions are idiots — constant negative feedback is damaging. Many people who I’ve spoken with about quitting their jobs told me they lost confidence in themselves because of bad work experiences. These are people who have grown their careers, earned advanced degrees, or led initiatives that made millions of dollars for their companies. Some of them have tough reputations, and aren’t especially sensitive to criticism. Yet the negativity they endured made them unsure of themselves.-new schools-mean kidshttps://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4552909/  (Long term effects of bullying.)-expats-absent parenting-the stigma of needing to get help for mental illnessMental Illness + general health Relocation Depression http://www.bcgsearch.com/article/60787/Being-Aware-of-Trailing-Spouse-Syndrome-How-the-Questions-You-Can-t-Ask-May-Make-All-the-Difference/Anxiety and mood disordersAnger (usually in men).http://www.webmd.com/healthy-aging/ss/slideshow-depression-triggers-and-aging?ecd=wnl_lbt_020117&ctr=wnl-lbt-020117_nsl-ld-stry_1&mb=Dx0WfNAsYrjr3vHZBv69pihonS%2fH3cwyJgykV2eBEGg%3d

THE DOCTALK PODCAST LINK

Here are the things we set out to speak about.

April 12

-the bunny case-tooth pulled complications and antibiotics and reactions!
-smelly feet can it be medical
-those pesky ingrown toenails

-Asprin

The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force published a final recommendation statement on Monday saying that taking an aspirin a day might help prevent cardiovascular disease and colon cancer.

-Arthritis more common in women?

Roughly one in four women have been given diagnoses of arthritis, compared with about one in five men, according to national health figures. But there are more than a hundred different kinds of arthritis, said Dr. Kelly Weselman, a rheumatologist who spoke on behalf of the American College of Rheumatology, and while some types disproportionately affect women, there are also forms that affect men more.
Osteoarthritis, the most common form of arthritis, affects both genders equally, though different joints may be affected in men and women, Dr. Weselman said. Age, weight and trauma play a role, and those “who have played a lot of sports like soccer and football tend to get osteoarthritis in the joints early.”
Other arthritic disorders affect far more women than men, with rheumatoid arthritis affecting three times as many women as men and lupus, an autoimmune condition that affects many organs, including the joints, affecting nine times as many women.
