CarTalk January 18, 2016

The journalists from www.motoringme.com join the show every week to inform and entertain as they talk about what they think is hot and not so hot in the automotive world.

We kicked off the show revisiting the world of the Honda Pilot, a world that they were accused of being a bit too fast to push aside.

Lots of views and some reviews on the show!

-From the things-we’ve-been-telling-you-for-more-than-a-year-and-are-now-pretty-much-confirmed department comes this: Jeep CEO Michael Manley says the long-speculated Hellcat-powered Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT Trackhawk will happen, and it will arrive in 2017.

Nissan is starting to make a habit of swapping its crossovers’ wheels with snow tracks. Following last year’s tracked Juke Nismo RS, the company has unveiled a new tracked Rogue. The only difference? Whereas the Juke was built in Europe and demonstrated in Finland, the newly tanklike Rogue was assembled by Motorsports in Action in Quebec. Nissan’s really making tracks with this concept.

The new JCW ragtop follows roughly the same performance-enhancement regimen as the JCW hardtop, including boosting the 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder to 228 horsepower (available at 6000 rpm) and 236 lb-ft of torque from 1250 rpm, compared with 189 horsepower and 207 lb-ft for the Cooper S. Mini promises a “highly emotional acoustic pattern across all load ranges.” Manual and automatic transmissions return for duty, both with six forward speeds. Beefy Brembo brakes and sportier suspension tuning are also part of the package. The stability-control system comes with an electronic locking differential as well as torque-steer compensation, while dynamic damper control is optional.

The very first Focus RS rolled off the line today at Ford’s assembly plant in Saarlouis, Germany. The model heads to U.S. dealerships this spring.
The 2016 Ford Focus RS made its world debut at the Geneva motor show in 2015. The model has already been available for two generations across the pond, but this year marks the first time the RS comes to the U.S. market.
Under the hood, the hot hatch packs a 2.3-liter turbo-four with 350 hp, or 40 more hp than the related four-cylinder inside the Mustang EcoBoost. The car features an all-wheel drive system with brake-based torque vectoring, sending up to 70 percent of the torque to the rear axle and up to 100 percent of that to either wheel. According to Ford, the RS should hit 62 mph in 4.7 seconds.
The model is just one of many new products headed to the Ford Performance lineup. After the Focus RS, the F-150 Raptor arrives this fall and the GT supercar heads into production late this year. The lineup also features the Focus ST, Fiesta ST, and the recently debuted Shelby GT350 and GT350R. By 2020, Ford will have brought 12 new performance vehicles to global markets.
