2. Camera is great 2nd generation Leica Dual CameraThe Huawei Mate 9 sports a second-generation Leica Dual Camera with a 12MP RGB sensor and 20MP monochrome sensor. The RGB sensor captures vivid colours, while the monochrome sensor picks out the finer details.AMAZING B&WSame quality as iPhone!8 MP selfie camera with autofocusThe Huawei Mate 9 sports an 8 MP selfie camera with autofocus and a range of features to help you take speedy selfies. Set the camera to take a photo when you smile, or place your finger on the fingerprint sensor to activate the shutter. A new facial enhancement algorithm automatically detects your face and applies custom beauty settings.3. Great speakersThe Mate 9 comes with stereo speakers (a close competitor, the Pixel XL, has a mono speaker) which sound amazing for a smartphone — probably the best I've heard. It also has four directional mics, which make recording interviews much easier; you can listen to sounds that came from a specific direction and mute all other sounds. On the other hand, it does not support Bluetooth aptX, which is a shame. 4. Great recording ability with the mics! 46. NOT WATERPROOFReplace a Galaxy Edge 7 or Iphone 7? Not likely.New to the market this is a phone you might consider, speed and battery are tops and the photography and audio very good!SpecificationsNETWORKBODY

2. A home mapping plug! And links to Amazon Alexa!https://www.engadget.com/2017/01/02/-trackr-s-home-mapping-plugs-help-you-pinpoint-lost-items/Even in the tiniest of apartments, your most precious possessions somehow vanish when you need them most. In a bid to make messy people slightly less late, TrackR has announced a new range of item locator tags. The TrackR pixel tag is its new keyring-like device, allowing you to track any item within your home or beyond. The company has switched from aluminum to plastic, meaning that the pixel is cheaper than its predecessor. In addition, the device gains an LED light that'll help you find it in the dark.Instead of just providing a vague location for your missing items, TrackR promises that it's latest product will lead you straight to them. That's because the new tags work with atlas, a series of WiFi plugs that uses the company's cloud-based platform to map out your home. With it, users can create floorplans of their building on the TrackR app, alerting them whenever a tagged item enters or leaves a given room. Thanks to Amazon Alexa compatibility, TrackR users can ask to locate items, even using TrackR's pixel log to retrace their steps. In a nice touch, the atlas is also compatible with non TrackR made location products, meaning that if you've invested in other Bluetooth tracking devices you only need to purchase the atlas plugs. Both the TrackR atlas and pixel are available for pre-order now, shipping on March 15 and costing $39.99 and $24.99 respectively.3. Best Gadgets coming in 2017!https://www.technologyreview.com/s/603212/the-best-gadgets-coming-in-2017/Apple iPhone 8To mark the iPhone’s 10th anniversary this year, Apple is expected to overhaul the phone’s design. One model could swap its liquid-crystal LCD display for one made of OLEDs (organic light-emitting diodes) that will wrap around the gadget’s edges. OLED displays are thinner, lighter, and more flexible than LCDs. Samsung’s Galaxy Edge phones sport a similar design and have been called gimmicky; Apple appears to be trying to make the feature more useful by enabling the phone to react when you touch any of its sides instead of just one. Samsung Galaxy S8As Samsung’s flagship gadget, the Galaxy S could rehabilitate the company’s reputation, which was tarnished by its botched Galaxy Note 7 recall—but only if the phone delights consumers and doesn’t spontaneously burst into flames. The upcoming Galaxy S8 is expected to be unveiled at the Mobile World Congress trade show in late February. The company has already revealed that the phone will feature a new virtual personal assistant based on technology from the startup Viv, which it acquired in October. The S8 is also rumored to pack an extremely high-resolution “4K” display, a second rear camera, and possibly an iris scanner for an added layer of security.Foldable Samsung phoneThis may also be the year that Samsung releases a foldable smartphone, a design it has been developing for years. As this 2013 Samsung concept video shows, such a device would let you read and view content on a tablet-sized screen that could convert to a smartphone-like size for convenient transport. Other companies, including Lenovo, the Chinese phone maker Oppo, and the Japanese display maker JDI have also created dual-screen and foldable smartphones, but none have been released commercially. Samsung hopes to beat them to market.Microsoft Surface phoneCEO Satya Nadella has said Microsoft is working on the “ultimate mobile device.” What might that be? Its Surface series of laptops, PCs, and tablets is missing a phone, but one is expected to launch in 2017. You can expect it to have a metal body to match Microsoft’s other Surface devices and run the Windows 10 operating system through an emulator when connected to an external keyboard, monitor, and mouse.HTC Vive 2 VR headsetWhat gadgets are you looking forward to buying in 2017?Tell us in the comments.A year ago, HTC’s pivot from making smartphones to focusing on virtual-reality technology seemed risky, but its Vive VR system has gained a solid following since its April 2016 release. For its follow-up device, HTC is expected to cut the cable that currently tethers the headset to its user’s PC. Startups have created accessories that let the headset be used wirelessly, and HTC is expected to offer a more integrated solution in the Vive 2.Android Wear 2.0 smart watchesLast year wasn’t a banner year for smart watches. But 2017 will bring new watches based on Android Wear 2.0, an updated version of Google’s Android operating system. Because it will let users download and run apps on their watches via Bluetooth, cellular connection, or Wi-Fi, without relying on tethered connections from their smartphones, iPhone owners could use Android Wear devices. Android Wear 2.0 is in the “developer preview” phase and will be publicly released in early to mid-2017.
4. 5 techs killed in 2016 by silicon valley!https://www.technologyreview.com/s/603209/five-technologies-silicon-valley-killed-in-2016/VineLaunched in January 2013, Vine’s popularity grew with each new looping six-second clip it gave the world, like the one of a very angry woman at an Apple Store, the one that originated the term “on fleek,” and “Ketchup Mount Rushmore,” just to name just a few. Twitter’s app also created many stars, some of whom were able to parlay their popularity and Vine-making prowess into real fortune by fashioning clips for marketers. But alas, the service peaked in 2014, and competitors like Instagram Snapchat drew away many of Vine’s users—including many of its stars. By 2016, more than half of those who had been in the top 1 percent of users in 2013 had stopped posting. In October, Twitter finally said it was turning off the lights. This month, it said it will replace Vine with a new app that will let users continue to make six-second loops and post them directly to Twitter.Google FiberSome are still scratching their heads over why Google ever got into the fiber-optic business, investing heavily in Fiber, its high-speed Internet and cable television service. And it turns out that perhaps Google itself never knew the reason for investing billions in it (according to a recent estimate, it costs at least $1 billion to add a new market). In October, the CEO of Access, the Alphabet division in charge of its gigabit broadband initiative, announced that the company would not expand beyond the nine cities in which it is already up and running and four where construction has already begun. The firm will now likely focus on using newer, less expensive wireless technologies to deliver high-speed Internet. But maybe it hasn’t been all for naught. As James Surowiecki argued in MIT Technology Review last June, Google’s broadband offerings have pushed private companies to improve their services by “forcing competition when regulators won’t.” Without Google, the quality of broadband options today might not be as high, he wrote. In that sense, Google provided a public good “whose spillover benefits are likely to be immense, and one that neither the government nor the private sector was doing much to deliver.”PebbleThe rise and fall of Pebble coincided with the rise and fall of our interest in smart watches. The Kickstarter darling’s first watch shattered records in 2013 by raising $10 million, gave crowdfunding a much-needed success story, and helped inspire a resurgence in wrist-worn computers, which we called one of the 10 Breakthrough Technologies of that year. But back then MIT Technology Review’s Rachel Metz also warned that if smart watches didn’t become more versatile, they risked becoming “just another irritating gadget.” How true. Though Pebble released a few more watches, interest in smart watches waned, and Apple’s entry made it very tough to compete. This month, after being acquired by Fitbit, Pebble announced it would no longer exist and had stopped making or selling watches. In a “Dear Pebblers” letter, it did offer refunds for any dedicated backers still waiting for their newest watches. The headphone jackApple called its move to ditch the “ancient” 3.5 millimeter headphone jack an act of “courage.” The argument is that it is leading a much-needed move toward a world where wireless audio is the standard. But while that may end up benefitting consumers in the long term, not surprisingly the move will impact the company bottom line immediately. People can still use traditional headphones, thanks to a dongle that will ship with the new phones, or they can also use headphones that plug into the lightning port—but those won’t work on non-Apple products. For the best wireless audio experience, consumers will need to buy a pair of Apple’s new AirPods for $159. But despite the brazen move to tune out the wishes of many of its customers, so far iPhone 7 sales don’t seem to be suffering because of it. And now it appears that Samsung may ditch the old headphone jack, too.Project AraIn September, Google stopped work on Project Ara, a neat-sounding hardware project it had been hyping for years. The dream was cheap smartphones, customizable and upgradable with interchangeable hardware components, like different kinds of camera lenses or sensors. Doubts that it would come true began creeping in last year when the company pulled the plug on a plan to test the idea in Puerto Rico. Ultimately, the trends dominating the smartphone market—short product cycles and cheaper, faster, shinier upgrades—likely helped convince Google to put its modular smartphone dreams aside.
5. What is going on with twitter?https://techcrunch.com/2017/01/01/twitters-controversial-head-of-china-is-the-latest-exec-to-leave-the-company/?ncid=rss
The Twitter executive exodus continues. CTO Adam Messinger and COO Adam Bain are among those to have left the company in recent months and now you can add Twitter’s head of its business in China to that list.Kathy Chen was hired seven months ago as Twitter’s managing director of Greater China based out of its Hong Kong office, but she has exited the company following restructuring in Asia. That was part of company-wide changes that included the layoff of nine percent of Twitter’s staff and the exit of a number of high-profile leaders.Chen, who had never used Twitter before last year, was a controversial appointment when she joined Twitter in April 2016 as its first Greater China MD. Her past employment and apparent government association raised concern in China.

9. Axiom Predictions!Next year will see significant developments in mobility, driven by continuous industry innovation and a growing tech-savvy millennial community, according to the region’s leading mobility retailer, axiom telecom. Fahad Al Bannai, the mobile technology giant’s CEO, said he expects 2017 to be a prosperous year for the digital world, as the boundaries to what can be achieved with a mobile device are once again broken. 1) Location-Based Services will break the marketing mold Perhaps one of the most interesting emerging developments is that which will blur the line between being online and offline, beacon technology. Apple’s iBeacon technology has been a pioneer on this front, allowing mobile apps to understand their position on a micro-local scale, and deliver hyper-contextual content to users based on location. The result? Businesses can offer real-time deals based on where they are at any given point in time. “Imagine you’re walking down a boulevard, hungry, and you receive a notification that your favorite burger spot is offering a great deal – that is what location-based services, such as beacon technology, is allowing businesses to do,” said Al Bannai. “It gives them the ability to reach the right customer, at the right time, and the right location. This is definitely a great tool for businesses, but will also be beneficial to the end-user, as it helps them find what they need, when they need it.”2) Small businesses will want a piece of the “app pie”. Such remarkable developments in technology and the continuous success being realized by major international brands is inspiring small businesses to follow suit and develop apps of their own. According to figures reported by the mobile app publishing platform, Bizness Apps, more than 50% of small business will be looking to create a mobile app next year. Furthermore, by 2017, its expected that more than 268 billion downloads will generate $77 billion worth of revenue for the app industry. In a market like the UAE, where SMEs represent more than 94% of businesses in the country, this offers the app industry enormous potential. “If you think of the one device that we rely on all day to keep us connected, it is our smartphone. Consider the possibilities, then, of being able to reach a relevant audience using this valuable instrument,” said Al Bannai. “Small businesses are witnessing the tremendous success of their counterparts and now want a piece of the app pie. And with app creation becoming more affordable every day, the technology is now within reach of most businesses, regardless of size.” 3) Augmented and Virtual Reality will witness tremendous growth. Mobile manufacturers such as Samsung and HTC have already starting exploring this space with the Gear VR and VIVE, respectively, but that is only the start to a whirlwind of cutting-edge virtual and augmented reality technologies that will soon hit the market, says Al Bannai. According to market advisor Digi-Capital, augmented/virtual reality revenue is expected to reach USD $120 billion by 2020, with augmented reality accounting for USD $90 billion and virtual reality accounting for USD $30 billion, and driven largely by the consumer and mobile AR/VR markets. “There is great interest in this field because of the many different useful applications that augmented and virtual reality could potentially assume – be it entertainment, training, or education,” said Al Bannai. “This takes the mobile experience to another level, enabling people to use their hand-held device to completely immerse themselves in another world, not only as passive observers, but as protagonists of their own digital universe.” Best Regards,
