Ideas in unexpected places..

TASMENA is a newly formed NPO, based in UAE, whose mandate is to create a space for people to connect, discuss, collaborate, learn and contribute to society through design. TASMENA aims to bring about social changes in environmental, humanitarian, cultural, health, education, etc through laboratories, workshops, competitions, conferences and community initiatives.

MENAlab, a TASMENA pilot project, will be offering an intensive five-day interdisciplinary laboratory open to anyone interested in participating in a dynamic, creative, intensive and collaborative environment. | The tutors for these labs and studios were selected through an exclusive call for proposals. | There will be eight exciting laboratory sessions running concurrently. All labs will address various topics of design ranging from art, architecture, documentaries, fashion, film, photography, storytelling, technology, urbanism, and visual communication. | We hope these lab sessions will enable designers and non-designers in the academic and industry sectors to share their experiences and integrate their daily practices into the community at large; in order to establish critical discussions beyond ideological, disciplinary and cultural boundaries. | These dialogues, discussed within such a collaborative environment, will help to address societal, cultural and economic issues in Dubai; ultimately working towards an understanding and diverse interpretation of this years topic, "Designing Change."

We would appreciate it if you could spread the news to your own community. We are not advertising this event, because of our belief that this is a grassroots movement that will spread to the community, by the community.

We would like for you to inform us of the approximate number of potential attendees of students and other participants from your community via e-mail first. It would greatly help us at TASMENA to prepare the logistic details for each laboratory.

Thank you so much for your support and looking forward to your involvement.

If you have any questions please don't hesitate to contact me.

Best regards,

the TASMENA team.
