Volkswagen stopped production of the Type 2 Kombi in Brazil on December 20 when the last of the 600 Last Edition units rolled off the production line. Brazil's finance minister Guido Mantega tried to keep the Kombi alive but without success as the model wasn't exempted from a new safety regulation which requires all new vehicles built in Brazil from January 1, 2014 must have driver and passenger airbags as well as ABS.
Volkswagen said that in order to meet these new safety requirements they would have to build a "new car" so in the end they decided to simply axe the model, even though it was still very popular after 56 years of production. Over the course of almost six decades, the South American country built no less than 1.5 million units out of a total of 3.5 million cars.

Ford EcoSport?

It starts from AED60,000 and is fitted with a 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine driving only the FRONT wheels through a 6-speed automatic. But why then, you’re wondering, does it have a spare wheel mounted on the side-hinged rear tailgate making it a rather bulky affair to heave open when you come back from Lulu’s shopping in arms.
