CarTalk with MotoringME May 22, 2017

Cars you have to love them and there seems to be an endless number of questions about them. Well CARTALK on Nightline is your one-stop-shop for automobile conversation.

The Motoring Middle East team.

What a week James had a chance to cruise around in a Beetle, a Beetle Sport.

The big question is would James buy one? No.

Look, the car is great with its 2L turbo engine that wins against most vehicles on the stoplight grand prix.

This is not the original Beetle it is more squat, more sporty and not girly it means business.

Here is what it was on paper.

This car has room in the back seat even though it is really a 2 seater as far awe are concerned. There is room for a 5”11 tall guy in the backseat but we are probably not driving to muscat back there.

Plenty of bood boot space, seats fold down for an unexpected amount of cargo room.

Hands down this is a fine looking car that people loved to point out was sexy in a masculine way. This car is more squat than gen1 and with fewer on the road it is a head turner!

Personally we liked the look better than the mini!

The Fender Stereo is great.

The entertainment system has 2 SD card slots and that is how the nav system is loaded, what a good idea.

The sunroof has a soft cloth shield which is nice.

Amazing sound has been manufactured with exhaust diversion, cool!

The parking break hits armrest when applied, why?

Nice tan leather seats that were a bit warm all the time.

The steering wheel is too big and no hand contouring even though this is a sporty car.

Totally found the black plastic inside the vehicle with its high gloss a little cheap looking reminding us of a Fiat 500.

Show Notes.

All new nissan micra!

The launch range of the all-new Nissan Micra has been completed with the arrival at retailers of the eagerly anticipated 1.0-litre 71PS entry-level model.
While it’s the last of three launch engines to go on sale, it will play a vital role in the Micra success story. It is expected to account for approximately 20% of sales.
Offering an excellent balance of performance and running costs, the three-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine is linked to a five-speed manual transmission. This highly efficient powertrain results in official Combined Cycle fuel economy of 4.6 litres/100km and CO2 emissions of 103g/km when running on 15 or 16-inch wheels.
The new 1.0-litre 71PS engine joins the 0.9-litre 90PS three-cylinder turbo petrol and the 1.5-litre 90PS four-cylinder diesel, which went on sale earlier this year.
The new Nissan Micra is quite simply a revolution. It is a radical progression from the model it has replaced, and from the trio of highly successful superminis which date back to the Micra’s debut in Europe in 1983.
Longer, wider and lower than ever before, the all-new Micra has been conceived, designed and engineered with European customers’ requirements at the top of the agenda.
Key to its appeal is the hatchback’s athletic and expressive exterior design, which moves the Micra name plate in a daring new direction. The contemporary look and premium feel continues inside, with a high-quality cabin that boasts two-tone soft-touch materials as standard across the range.
The all-new Micra is also a technology leader, with a number of features which are not only new to the Micra but new to the segment. These include Intelligent Lane Intervention, a safety system which gently corrects the Micra back on to the right path should it be required.
Also unique to Micra is the BOSE Personal audio system, which features speakers built into the driver’s head rest for an immersive 360° sound experience. The new Micra is available with a wide range of personalisation options, allowing owners to modify the exterior and interior with premium components in a variety of stylish and contemporary colours.
The new Micra is also a fantastic car to drive, with a dynamic performance that is the perfect balance between agility, excitement and the secure feeling that comes with confident and predictable handling.

Ford fires CEO
Ford Motor Co. is firing CEO Mark Fields after less than three years at the helm of the second-largest US automaker, multiple news outlets reported Sunday night. Fields will be replaced by Jim Hackett, the chairman of Ford's forward-looking Smart Mobility division.

The outlets, including Forbes and the New York Times, cited unnamed sources. Fields has come under pressure for the company's flagging stock price, which has sank nearly 40 percent during his stint as CEO. Ford shares closed Friday at $10.87.

The 56-year-old has led Ford since mid-2014, when he took over from Alan Mulally, the popular CEO tapped by Bill Ford Jr. to execute the company's turnaround. Previously, Fields was COO, president of the company's Americas division, and CEO of Mazda when it was controlled by Ford. He's been with the company since 1989.
