CarClinic April 10, 2018

Everyone has one goal when it comes to cars, keeping that machine running in tip-top shape for as long as you possibly can!

Glenn joins the show from GT Auto Centre each week to help you work through your car questions.

And we started with a few great questions sent into the show.

  1. Good evening James. I would like reviews from shazad on Nissan Sentra 2014.im facing issues with it.It just speeds up very slow. the rev goes upto 5 n speed only 40. Thanks

2. What are some tell signs a vehicle has been in a crash from driving? Own one and think it may have had major repair done but it looks fine seems to drive crooked!

3. What is the difference between a minor and major service?

4. The heat or AC. I checked the fuses. Not sure if it is a relay? None of the fuses I checked were busted. I'm hoping I don't have a bigger problem going on. Any help is appreciated greatly.

On the dash is a diagram of the car. Usually for when the doors are open, hood is up, or trunk is open. Also a light under it called the brake lamp light. At odd intervals, all these lights flash at once. They stop just as soon as they start. Thought it was telling me my brakes were bad but replaced those and and it still comes on. Checked brake fluid, it's full. I don't have an owners manual to explain and would appreciate any help.

Car hesitates when starting, and there is a strong odor of gas, check engine light does not come on, and after it starts it runs good. Doesn't seem to have any leaks.

Car cranks has spark has fuel but will not start. What do you think could be the problem?

The CarClinic November 7, 2017

So, you own a car and you are feeling that you are being held hostage by the dealer or agency as we call them in the UAE.

Glenn is here to help you feel a little more at ease when it comes to your car repair issues.

Just a random image of 2 cars that don't need a lot of repairs this week and there is absolutely nothing about the Mustang on the show.

The Wrangler on the other hand is a piece of art that at 200,000KM does get a little TLC.

So, the show is simply about fixing your car and we had some great calls about A/C this week and manufacturers milage ratings.

Glenn is a mechanic and he calls it as it is.

  8. My check engine light is on and the tester says that the MAP sensor needs replaced. What is that?

  9. Cool article of red flags!

CarTalk with Motoring ME October 2, 2017

There is no doubt about it the best way to start or end your week is to have a listen to the CarTalk show on dubaieye's Nightline show with none other than the team from Motoring Middle East.

That is a picture of the team but there were only 2 of us in the studio this week.

What a great week of conversation and I am always impressed with the number of people who dial or SMS into the show.

And I think we helped a few people pick a car.

It is always interesting to hear what Shazhad is driving.

Midrange Soul Plus models now get the UVO3 system as standard. Kia will offer a limited run of Soul Plus models equipped with last year’s Plus Primo package, which adds adaptive cruise control, automated emergency braking, a panoramic sunroof, and leather seats with heat and ventilation. That package will then be replaced with the Primo Lit package, which includes the contents of the Plus Primo package with more active safety features. Additional features include LED exterior lighting with high-intensity-discharge headlamps, heated rear seats and steering wheel, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, and more. Finally, a new, highly apropos color joins the palette: Wild Orange.

The CarClinic with Glenn Power September 19, 2017

So, we love to talk cars and we generally seem to be pretty bad at actually understanding the mechanics of those cars we love.

As soon as we have to get our cars repaired we tend to act like fish out of water and become easy prey for anyone looking to take advantage of us.

So, Nightline has taken on the challenge to educate us about car maintenance and repair and we do that with Glenn Power the influencer mechanic in Dubai.

This week we had phone calls during every part of the show.

Click to listen to the show.

Here is a look at the show notes.

-Is it possible to replace the mirrors on the door if they are cloudy

-My hyundai is making a hard knocking sound when it starts what might that be?

-How do we test if our airbags are working I am driving a 12 year old vehicle?

-I am smelling coolant inside my car  when my car is running any idea what is going on?

-do I need to change the power steering and brake fluids?

-Help! I have had fitten a new hydraulic/steering pump, after a few hours of operation the pump started to become noisy. It is at its worst when on full lock, either way. When turning at slow speed the pump is noisy and there is minor pulsation from the steering whee

-Any idea? The truck misfires really bad. Code came right after engine was pulled to change crossover pipe. Now I also have misfire on cylinder 5?

CarTalk with MotoringME May 22, 2017

Cars you have to love them and there seems to be an endless number of questions about them. Well CARTALK on Nightline is your one-stop-shop for automobile conversation.

The Motoring Middle East team.

What a week James had a chance to cruise around in a Beetle, a Beetle Sport.

The big question is would James buy one? No.

Look, the car is great with its 2L turbo engine that wins against most vehicles on the stoplight grand prix.

This is not the original Beetle it is more squat, more sporty and not girly it means business.

Here is what it was on paper.

This car has room in the back seat even though it is really a 2 seater as far awe are concerned. There is room for a 5”11 tall guy in the backseat but we are probably not driving to muscat back there.

Plenty of bood boot space, seats fold down for an unexpected amount of cargo room.

Hands down this is a fine looking car that people loved to point out was sexy in a masculine way. This car is more squat than gen1 and with fewer on the road it is a head turner!

Personally we liked the look better than the mini!

The Fender Stereo is great.

The entertainment system has 2 SD card slots and that is how the nav system is loaded, what a good idea.

The sunroof has a soft cloth shield which is nice.

Amazing sound has been manufactured with exhaust diversion, cool!

The parking break hits armrest when applied, why?

Nice tan leather seats that were a bit warm all the time.

The steering wheel is too big and no hand contouring even though this is a sporty car.

Totally found the black plastic inside the vehicle with its high gloss a little cheap looking reminding us of a Fiat 500.

Show Notes.
Noel talks the CR-V, the new one!

All new nissan micra!

The launch range of the all-new Nissan Micra has been completed with the arrival at retailers of the eagerly anticipated 1.0-litre 71PS entry-level model.
While it’s the last of three launch engines to go on sale, it will play a vital role in the Micra success story. It is expected to account for approximately 20% of sales.
Offering an excellent balance of performance and running costs, the three-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine is linked to a five-speed manual transmission. This highly efficient powertrain results in official Combined Cycle fuel economy of 4.6 litres/100km and CO2 emissions of 103g/km when running on 15 or 16-inch wheels.
The new 1.0-litre 71PS engine joins the 0.9-litre 90PS three-cylinder turbo petrol and the 1.5-litre 90PS four-cylinder diesel, which went on sale earlier this year.
The new Nissan Micra is quite simply a revolution. It is a radical progression from the model it has replaced, and from the trio of highly successful superminis which date back to the Micra’s debut in Europe in 1983.
Longer, wider and lower than ever before, the all-new Micra has been conceived, designed and engineered with European customers’ requirements at the top of the agenda.
Key to its appeal is the hatchback’s athletic and expressive exterior design, which moves the Micra name plate in a daring new direction. The contemporary look and premium feel continues inside, with a high-quality cabin that boasts two-tone soft-touch materials as standard across the range.
The all-new Micra is also a technology leader, with a number of features which are not only new to the Micra but new to the segment. These include Intelligent Lane Intervention, a safety system which gently corrects the Micra back on to the right path should it be required.
Also unique to Micra is the BOSE Personal audio system, which features speakers built into the driver’s head rest for an immersive 360° sound experience. The new Micra is available with a wide range of personalisation options, allowing owners to modify the exterior and interior with premium components in a variety of stylish and contemporary colours.
The new Micra is also a fantastic car to drive, with a dynamic performance that is the perfect balance between agility, excitement and the secure feeling that comes with confident and predictable handling.

Ford fires CEO
Ford Motor Co. is firing CEO Mark Fields after less than three years at the helm of the second-largest US automaker, multiple news outlets reported Sunday night. Fields will be replaced by Jim Hackett, the chairman of Ford's forward-looking Smart Mobility division.

The outlets, including Forbes and the New York Times, cited unnamed sources. Fields has come under pressure for the company's flagging stock price, which has sank nearly 40 percent during his stint as CEO. Ford shares closed Friday at $10.87.

The 56-year-old has led Ford since mid-2014, when he took over from Alan Mulally, the popular CEO tapped by Bill Ford Jr. to execute the company's turnaround. Previously, Fields was COO, president of the company's Americas division, and CEO of Mazda when it was controlled by Ford. He's been with the company since 1989.
