June 4 Amnesty for illegal labour.

The UAE cabinet has put a law in motion to crack down on illegal labour int he UAE.

3 months amnesty to come clean!

Why now? The new labour law is soon going to come into force and only if the rules are being followed does a labour law have any teeth.

But the question that was raised is who should actually be punished the labour or the person using it?

Who is to blame for labour exploitation?

Are we as a society ready to say, "yes we will pay more and no we will not hire the cheap illegal labour to get the job done?"

I wonder?

And if the illegal labour decided they want to leave who will pay?

Some suggestions have been made that illegal labour accounts for as many as 300, 000 workers and many are in the construction field!

Are we ready for a work slowdown?

Are we ready for the inflationary pressure that might be caused if 300,000 people leave?

There are a lot of questions to be answered and maybe then we can revisit the situation.
